Routes to get from one place to another Northwest Austin: Anderson Mill Bicycle Lane

gv82 writes "I just started commuting to work once or twice per week from Steiner Ranch (on 620 just south of 2222) to Mopac & Duval. The new bicycle lane on Anderson Mill makes this ride possible. I considered it too dangerous prior to constructions finishing on Anderson Mill.

Thank you to anyone that had a hand in getting a bicycle lane put in on Anderson Mills!"

Advice Needed Northwest Austin: Cedar Park to Loop 360 Bridge avoiding FM 2222

ProtectiveWife writes "My husband is going to start commuting to work 3 days a week. We live near El Salido Pkwy and 620 in Cedar Park and he commutes to past the bridge on Loop 360. When driving, the best route is 620 to 2222 to 360, but people are maniacs on 2222! They drive 75mph coming down a hill stretch that has no shoulder whatsoever. It doesn't look quite as dangerous going back (North), but probably still not the safest.

Is the best route going to be south along Anderson Mill, Pickfair Drive and Spicewood Springs as shown here: Northwest Routes or does anyone know of another good way to circumvent 2222?"

Routes to get from one place to another Northwest Austin: Route from Jollyville Rd to Boulder Ln to 620

I've looked at Google, but can't find a route that connects the neighborhood off Anderson Mill to the neighborhood off Boulder. I wouldn't mind going offroad for a short distance, if necessary."

Road Evaluations Northwest Austin: Lime Creek Road

Joel writes "I got this on one of my mailing lists
Lime Creek is a stretch of hilly, windy road along the edge of Lake Travis.
It's got great views of the lake, exciting twists & turns, and one of the
meanest hills around ** It's not the steepest, or the longest hill, but
it's got a couple of false-flats that taunt you on the way up =) This is
also a great route to ride on a windy day. Since your never going in the
same direction for long, the wind doesn't really bother you. The other
great thing about this route is that I can get there quickly on bike from
my house. This weekend, I only had a 2.5 hour window available to ride,
but I was able to get in 40 miles in that time... and much of that was in
the scenic hill-country.

The road itself is a two-lane road with no shoulder, but it's very pleasant
to ride-on because there's very little traffic especially if you go early
in the morning on a weekend. If you go later in the day, you'll probably
see a lot of motorcycles. I've never had a problem with them, but I
definitely prefer to go in the morning. You could get to Lime Creek by
riding Anderson Mill west across 620, and then following it all the way out
to Volente Beach. Lime Creek is a right turn @ Volente beach. However,
Anderson Mill east of 620 is not a good place to ride a bike, and even the
first few miles west of 620 have a lot of traffic until you get past the
neighborhoods there. So, I normally get out there by following this route:
- Cross 620 on El Salido going west
- Turn left on Old Mill (1st left after a park)
- Turn right on "Anderson Mill Rd."... the name is confusing. This is not
the same piece of road the crosses 620
- Turn left on Lime Creek after a couple miles. There's a sign that says
something like "Villages of Volente, 6 miles (arrow right)"
- This goes all the way to Volente, at Volente Beach, I'll turn left on RR
2769 (aka the other Anderson Mill), and follow that for a few more miles
and then turn-around and go back before I start hitting the traffic near
620 again. This stretch of road between Volente & 620 does start to get a
fair amount of traffic later in the day, especially if it's a nice day
since a lot of people will be headed out to the lake. So, again, try to
ride this early in the morning.

Turn right onto Lime Creek Rd. at Volente Water Park and continue through stunning Texas Hill country past the Sandry Creek LCRA park be prepared for a fairly nasty hill in two parts. Keep going until you hit the next intersection and turn right onto FM 1431. Go up to Lakeline Drive go right and take that to Cypress Creek Pkwy. Again turn right and continue to El Salido. Left turn here takes you back to 620 about half a mile from where you started. About 23 miles."
